portal behavior

none of it is mine to keep

late summer melancholy. been too hot for too long to think straight. there’s just enough structure to hold me together but the rest feels liquid. like the sweat on my palm that made me forget which way to turn the key in my front door.

in a portal there’s nothing to hold onto and yet everything screams at you to cling. scratched out prose and stardust litter pages these dog days. everything is sticky but so, so sweet.

i submitted the essay i wrote about my divorce on the anniversary of the wedding it undid. a coincidental calendar joke my sluggish mind didn’t realize until after the fact. summer makes me long for the time to think that comes with winter.

i’ve had two sunburns this year. with the skin damage done, i delight in the wisps of dry skin that shed off of me.
